HOW LIFESAVING CARE INSPIRES GIVING BACK
Irwin Srob knows firsthand that compassionate and innovative care, in the right environment, brings hope and healing. It’s a belief shaped by his own experience as a patient at Sarasota Memorial.
More than two decades later, it’s what inspires his generous support of the Irwin L. Srob & George P. Salley Infusion Center at the newly opened Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion.
Irwin and his life partner, George, decided to call Sarasota home more than 30 years ago after visiting a friend. Only a few years after they arrived in Sarasota, Irwin established a personal relationship with SMH as a patient receiving lifesaving care. He arrived at the hospital with an extremely elevated pulse, feeling vulnerable and anxious.
The emergency team acted swiftly and skillfully, leading to emergency open-heart surgery to replace his aortic valve. Irwin commends every department that was a part of his care journey, from cardiac surgery to critical care and cardiac rehabilitation.
“Every nurse, doctor, and staff member treated me with extraordinary care and dignity. When a place gives you your life back, you appreciate them forever,” he said.
After experiencing SMH’s patient care firsthand, Irwin was inspired to give back. His motivation for philanthropic support is his belief that the environment, combined with exceptional patient care, can encourage a patient in their own fight for health.
The Srob & Salley Infusion Center, located at the new outpatient cancer pavilion, combines a peaceful environment with a state-of-the-art facility, including 23 private infusion bays and comprehensive infusion services for patients requiring various treatments, including biotherapy, chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and hydration.
Irwin added, “When patients walk through the door, I want them to feel wrapped in comfort, surrounded by world-class care, and deeply assured that they aren’t fighting alone.”
Thanks to his generosity, the Irwin L. Srob & George P. Salley Infusion Center will be a place of hope and healing for years to come.
