The Next Chapter in Cancer Care: The Opening of the Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion
FALL 2026
The opening of the Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion marks the culmination of a journey nearly a decade in the making—the next chapter in the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute story.
The journey began in 2020 with the dedication of the Institute and continued in 2021 with the opening of the eight-story Oncology Tower; now it continues with a new milestone: a seven-story, 200,000-square-foot pavilion connected to the tower, adding a home for outpatient services, bringing every stage of cancer care under one roof, close to home.
Kevin Cooper, chair of the Sarasota County Public Hospital Board, emphasized the community impact of the facility, “It reflects our community’s commitment to ensuring that patients and families facing cancer have access to exceptional care, advanced treatment options, and compassionate support close to home.”
Built on Legacy
The continued success of the Jellison Cancer Institute is built upon the foundational gift by the Brian and Sheila Jellison Family Foundation. Born out of the Jellison family’s own experience with STORYcancer, that landmark contribution has paved the way for comprehensive cancer care at Sarasota Memorial.
“This is a reminder of what can be accomplished when generous donors, dedicated healthcare professionals, and an entire community come together around a shared vision,” said Healthcare Foundation President Stacey Corley.
The transformational gift from Susan Milman, the driving force behind the new Pavilion, further revolutionizes outpatient oncology services and enriches the care the Institute provides at SMH.
Susan recently shared her passion and the purpose behind her philanthropic support: “My reasons for supporting this project were deeply personal: to honor my family whose values of compassion and community shaped who I am, and to ensure world-class cancer care stays close to home.”
Integrative Cancer Care
The newly opened facility brings together a full spectrum of outpatient services, ensuring that every stage of cancer care is available in a single healing environment. The pavilion is home to the Donna & Jon Boscia Breast Health Center, Irwin L. Srob & George P. Salley Infusion Center, surgical oncology suites, radiation oncology, advanced imaging, genetic testing and counseling, high-risk oncology services, and physician specialists from First Physicians Group and Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute. A pedestrian skybridge connects the pavilion to the Oncology Tower, enabling seamless treatment at all stages of patient care.
A Foundation for Tomorrow’s Healthcare
With the Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion now open, the Jellison Cancer Institute enters a new era, one built on comprehensive cancer services conveniently located on SMH’s flagship Sarasota campus.
“As the latest addition to our Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute, the new Milman-Kover Pavilion builds on our commitment to ensuring that community members facing cancer have access to exceptional care, advanced treatment options and compassionate support, close to home,” said Sarasota Memorial President & CEO David Verinder. “A cancer diagnosis is life-changing, and our goal is to make the journey as seamless and supportive as possible, from screening and diagnosis through treatment, recovery, and survivorship.”
The growth continues beyond this opening, with Sarasota Memorial moving forward with plans for a new outpatient cancer center adjacent to SMH–Venice while continuing to invest in cancer research and innovative treatments to meet the region’s growing needs.
