Sarasota Memorial’s high-quality care is now available in South Sarasota County community. The new hospital and medical campus in Venice provides local residents with the same level of excellent medical and patient care they’ve come to expect from SMH, closer to home.
Now open to patients, this 5-story, 365,000 square foot hospital has 110 private patient suites and the full array of hospital services including, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Intensive Care, Rehab and a comprehensive Labor and Delivery Recovery and Postpartum unit.
In its first year of operation, the SMH-Venice team managed more than 34,000 visits to its emergency room, admitted over 12,600 patients, performed over 5,200 surgeries and delivered more than 200 babies. With higher than anticipated volumes since opening, planning began to add a third patient care tower to the Venice campus. Construction is well under way on the $113 million expansion, which will add 100 more private patient suites in 2024.
The 65-acre Laurel Road campus was designed to be flexible and expandable without impacting current operations. In future phases, SMH-Venice has the capacity to more than double in size, to 400 private inpatient suites, 16 surgical suites and a 50-bed ER.
Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation is Sarasota Memorial’s philanthropic partner and is reaching out to the local community to get involved with the SMH-Venice. A gift to the Healthcare Foundation will further the new hospital’s programs, services, and facilities.
